School Return – Message 2

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Just a quick reminder that, in order to have a place allocated to your child for a group of ‘catch up’ sessions you are required to contact the school by Friday 12th June 3pm. Once this deadline has passed we will not be able to allocate a place to your child until September.
I know many of you are making a very tough decision on limited information currently. In order to make a more informed decision I have taken some pictures of what a class, the hall (for the Keyworker group) and an outdoor session may look like.

I have also had many meetings with an external agency and cluster heads. After which I know the following:
  • Pupils will only be scheduled 3 days over the four weeks to have a catch up session with the teacher. These three sessions will all be in the same week to reduce cross contamination.
  • Pupils will be in non-school uniform and will not be allowed to bring anything from home (one exception may be food and drink, depending on the circumstances of lunch). All resources will be on the pupils desk for them at the start of the day. This will be their desk with their resources for the entire three days.
  • Doors and windows will be open in classrooms for ventilation purposes, pupils will be expected to dress appropriately.
  • Toilets will be allocated to no more than 2 classes. Toilet breaks will be timetabled in 15 minute periods, alternating between the two classes. This will also allow for regular handwashing.
  • Pupils will have their lunch for half an hour in the classroom under the distanced supervision of the class teacher and/or Mid day supervisor.
  • Parents will be asked to bring their pupil to the class designated school point, under the social distancing etiquette. Your child will have their temperature checked before entry (any readings over 38 degrees will be unable to come to school). Of course, there will be further details about this nearer the time including details of school travel around the site..
  • Start times, end times and lunch times will all be staggered for classes to minimise the number of parents on site.
  • The focus will be on the well being of the pupils NOT on the educational side.
  • As I wrote previously, social distancing is extremely difficult with many children. In Foundation Phase, resource boxes will be shared between 2 pupils and will remain their’s for the week.
I hope you understand my want to inform you with what I now know. Again it isn’t the full picture, but it is as truthful and accurate as possible at the moment. The staff and I will work hard after Friday to look at pupil groups and we will endeavour to let you know the date and times that your child has been allocated by Wednesday of next week. After which we will inform you further about the expectations and requirements prior to the sessions.
Many thanks,

Joel Moore
