Dear Parents/Guardians

Welcome back to all the pupils, we hope you had a fantastic summer and managed to find some time to relax. It is wonderful to have the pupils in their new classes and getting on with the new topics. Hope fully you have received some information from your child’s new class teacher about the class they have joined.

School Dinners

We have communicated a few times about the requirement to pre-book a hot school dinner if your child wishes to have one. I am delighted to say, with few exceptions, this is happening now. For those that are yet to do so, I would encourage you to do so soon, as the weather gets colder the requirement for a warm dinner will be more pressing.

If you are unsure how to do this please contact the front reception.

Clubs

We are slowly but surely hoping to integrate clubs into our school timetable this term. We will send out information on clubs as and when they are commencing. Thank you for your patience.

Secondary Admissions

The application period has now opened for year 6 pupils to apply for a secondary school place for September 2023.

Information packs explaining the admission process including letters to distribute to parents will be posted out to schools shortly. Once you receive your pack, if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact a member of the admissions team.

Lastly, We entered school on Friday to the sad news of HM Queen Elizabeth II’s passing. We decided to continue with our celebration assembly for all those pupils who were thoroughly deserving of their seren y wythnos awards. However, we did finish the assembly with a reflection on the events, a timely poem by Phillip Larkin about the queen and a minute silence. The assembly ended playing ‘The White Cliffs of Dover’ by Vera Lynn. One of HM Queen Elizabeth II favourite songs.

Reception Meals

County have made us aware that there may be some issues with Reception pupils booking their free school meals, with the parent pay app requesting payment. Please be assured by catering that the system will be updated over the next 24 hours but parents/guardians should be able to pre-order the meals over the weekend for next week without any charges being applied.  We are informed that should any pupils accounts be charged this will be refunded.   Should there be any unforeseen issues no reception pupil/s will be refused a meal.

Financial Support

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Please see below for eligibility and help for support.

Financial help available for more learners in Wrexham

From September, more learners in Wrexham will receive additional financial support. Whether it’s help with school uniform and equipment costs through the Pupil Development Grant, free school meals for all of Wrexham’s Reception class pupils, or free school meals for all ages to those eligible.

So, as the new term approaches, we are urging parents to apply for the support they’re entitled to.

Does your child already receive free school meals?

If your child currently receives Free School Meals, you may also be entitled to additional help through the Pupil Development Grant, which includes financial support for uniform, sports equipment and devices. To access this year’s scheme visit Pupil Development Grant (PDG) | Wrexham County Borough Council.

Has your financial situation changed in the last year?

If your child is not currently receiving Free School Meals, but your circumstances have changed this year, Wrexham might have support available for you. To check if you are eligible for Free School Meals, visit Free school meals | Wrexham County Borough Council. If you are eligible, you may also be able to receive the Pupil Development Grant.

Cllr Phil Wynn, Lead Member for Education, said: “If you feel you may be eligible for Free School Meals, I urge you to visit our website and apply. If your application is successful, may also be able to access the Pupil Development Grant, which is an important step in stopping money getting in the way of children’s education. We urge anyone who feels they are eligible to get in touch with us to support parents and learners through the school year.”

Free school meals for all reception-aged children

Universal Free School Meals will be rolled out to all primary learners in Wales over the next 12-18 months.

To help the youngest learners as soon as possible, all children in Reception will receive Free School Meals from this September.

If your child starts Reception this school year, they will receive their free meal automatically. BUT we urge you to complete the Free School Meals form on our website in case you are able to access further help for your child.

Child starting school? You’ll need a Parent Pay account

If your child will be receiving a free school meal this year – whether it is a universal free school meal or one you have applied for – you will need an account on the Parent Pay website www.parentpay.com.  Here’s how you get one:

1.       Email schoolmeals@wrexham.gov.uk with your child’s full name, date of birth and name of their school, and ask for a Parent Pay activation code

2.       You will receive an activation code to get the account up and running

If you have any questions about financial help available for your child while they are at school you can contact us at freeschoolmeals@wrexham.gov.uk.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Here we are at the final week (in fact day) of the year. Thank you all for your help, support, patience and good will during this year.

Although it was the final week of the school year it was as busy as any. Below is just a flavour of what has happened over the past 5 days.

We had the inclusiveness curriculum in to give all pupils Year 1 through to Year 6 an insight into what it may be like to be a wheelchair user. Thank you for Jack for the time he took to give our pupils this experience.

Along, the inclusiveness line, we had Del in to give year 5 and 6 a taste of sign language (something class 5 have done a good deal of). We all thoroughly enjoyed it and have requested extra training for staff to ensure we can all teach it as an extra language.

We had a visit for our Year 1 and 2 pupils. We were visited by 3 alpacas, the names of which escape me but they were all very accommodating allowing 60 young pupils stroke them.

Snowy Owls had their graduation. Though I was there only briefly it was lovely to see the pupils and the vast majority of parents share their experience in Snowy Owls. I am sure we have a whole host of budding prime ministers, vets, builders and space travellers waiting in the wings.

Finally, we all enjoyed a celebratory ice cream at the end of the week. A huge thank you to the PTA for organising this.

And finally of course, we say a big goodbye to a few people. Miss Sarah Gavan and Miss Chloe Gwilliam will be moving on to new endeavours- We thank them for all their hardwork over the past years.

Of course, a huge goodbye to our year 6’s who will undoubtedly be going onto bigger and better things. the leaving party on Thursday evening was a lovely end to the year 7’s the majority have been with us. We wish them all the best in what they choose to do. Good Luck next year and in to the future from all at Gwersyllt CP.

All that leaves me to say is have a lovely summer and we will see the pupils again on Monday September 5th.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Firstly, let me start with the great news from the newsletter that, due to our successful summer fayre, we managed to raise £1200 for the school. We look forward to being able to use this money for the pupils, either to help them out educationally or put a big smile on their faces.

Again, a huge thank you to the PTA for the time, effort and energy they put in to make this happen. the weather attempted to dampen our mood but for a couple of hours we had glorious sunshine.

Speaking of glorious sunshine, the pupils are making the opportunity to get out more for the final week or two of this year. Barn Owls had little hobbits in on Wednesday and many of the parents came down to work within Jaxon’s wood (now officially opened) with their children.

There was a broad variety of activities in waiting from hammocks to assault courses and for the ten minutes I managed to make it down for the pupils (and parents) seemed to fully enjoy it.

The fun didn’t stop there for Barn Owls as some of the little chicks went on to use the parachute for a whole host of games and activities.

We have enjoyed the last of our sports days this week (thank you again weather) and the Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils extoled the virtues of sportsmanship and athletic ability as all the pupils through out the school have.

A huge thank you for those that came out to support them.

The weather next week is looking very toasty so please ensure that the pupils are equipped with water, have been sun protected and have taken hayfever allergy tablets if required.

Many thanks and have a lovely weekend

Thank you

Just a quick message to say a huge thank you to all involved regarding the summer fayre this weekend.

Despite the weathers best effort it didn’t manage to wash out the event and we had a successful few hours in the sunshine.

So thank you to the staff involved, those that were running stalls, all the pupils, families and friends that came to support us and were so generous with their time and donations.

In particular, a huge thank you to our PTA, without them we wouldn’t have a summer fayre at all.

Diolch yn fawr pawb!

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I thought I would use this opportunity to give you the information we know about universal free school meals from September onwards.

Phased roll-out of Primary Free School Meals for the youngest children from September 2022 on-wards

From the new Autumn term on-wards (5th September 2022) all Reception children will be offered Free School Meals. This is an important step in reaching the shared ambition of ensuring no child goes hungry while in school.

In response to the current rising cost-of-living, Welsh Government and Wrexham LA are committed to implementing this scheme quickly and would ask for your patience as we build catering capacity to ensure a successful phased implementation and work towards a whole school roll-out over the next three years.

Wrexham LA are working with the Welsh Government to develop a process for you to be able to request a free meal for your child/children in Reception from September, trying to avoid any unnecessary burden for you. Further information will follow by the end of term. Please rest assured that if your child is currently in receipt of free school meals and/or any other associated benefits, these will not be affected.

The above message has come directly from County. Our expectation is that universal free school meals will then be rolled out for Year 1 and Year 2 later on in the year. Of course, we will update you with further information as soon as we have it.

Scrumdiddlyumptious

This term our Year ¾ classes (Dosbarth 1 a 2) have been looking at the topic ‘Scrumdiddlyumptious’. Amongst the many activities this term the pupils have baked bread and created a salad. They have looked with some depth at Fairtrade and the journey that food goes on before it gets to our mouths (and after).

They have looked at the nutritional benefits of food and the growing costs.

On the 22nd June 2022, the pupils enjoyed a gorgeous day in Jaxon’s wood with Little hobbits. They created Elderflower drink, their own kebabs, cooked around the fire and enjoyed their very own calzone pizza.

The results were truly ‘Scrumdiddlyumptious’.
