Dear Parents/Guardians,

The end of the penultimate week of term. This week has seen us start to celebrate the wonderful achievements this term and this year. This morning we had our annual Shiny Happy award. This award is in memory of Olivia Wood. The winner this year was Taylah in Glasbren 2. Taylah has received the star trophy and her name has been added to the growing list of previous winners in our reception area. Well done Taylah.

We also held our celebration event for the Heddlu Bach on Tuesday morning. PC Jo came with her traffic police car, her speed gun and a loud siren. We were supported by PC Stu, PCSO’s Lowri and Lydia. The pupils have been amazing and have really taken to their roles like ducks to water. Who knows maybe we have some future law enforcers in CP!

Next week we will host our termly attendance awards and pupil of the term awards. Then on Thursday…

…Leavers

The performance will commence at 6pm in the school hall (all being well). Doors will open at 5.30pm. The performance plus formal celebrations will take approximately 1 hour. Once these have taken place and, assuming the weather is suitable, pupils, family etc are all welcome to make their way down to the field where we will have music from Luke and a free ice cream (for the leavers only I am afraid). We will finish at 8.30pm.

Reception Graduation

Our Glasbren Team will be hosting the annual Graduation for our Reception Pupils on Wednesday 16th of July.  The gates to the yard will open at 1.30 pm and be shut at 1.40 pm.  After this, any arrivals will go through main reception.  Many thanks and we look forward to seeing you.

KS2 Showcase

On the same day as Reception Graduation, we will also have a small showcase for Afallen’s work at 2.30 pm.  Please enter through reception at this time.

MyHappymind Accreditation

Another huge well done to Mrs O’Toole and Miss Thomas who have led the school to the myHappymind Bronze Accreditation. MyHappymind is an initiative that allows pupils to learn skills and techniques to improve the mental health and emotional wellbeing. We look forward to continuing our journey in this.

Foster Wales

👀 Have you spotted our new banner?

We at Gwersyllt CP are proud to support Foster Wales Wrexham to help raise awareness of just how important it is to foster with the local authority.

Foster carers are needed right here in our community, and fostering with your local authority means you’re helping local children stay close to everything they know.

Dear Parents/Guardians

A busy week this week. We had another opportunity to meet our new Nursery intake with our Teddy Bears picnic this Wednesday. Alongside Club Aderyn (ran throughout the year), group transition mornings, shared transition days, parents information evening and this event, I hope that the new pupils feel prepared to join us in September. We have also started to work as a cluster in how we, as a group of schools, can lessen the impact that rising costs can have on the pupils and the surrounding community. Our boys cricket team did themselves proud- coming second in the Wrexham finals- Da Iawn boys, their sportsmanship was second to none as usual.

A huge thank you, as always, goes to our PTA who put on the summer disco’s last night. We are continually grateful and they were a great success as always. The PTA will also be paying for the pupils final treat of an ice cream on the field. We seem to regularly get nice weather for this day. Lets hope this continues this year.

Finally, our outside learning continues to flourish, the forest school sessions are still going ahead in glorious weather and the Year 1 pupils are steadily working on the culmination of their creative curriculum event. More news on this in a week or so.

Reports

These should be coming out with your child today. A form will come out the following week for any comments or feedback you wish to sent through.

Items in school and make up

Alongside a reminder for pupils to avoid bringing items from home in- cards, teddys etc. can we also request that no make up be brought in. We are seeing an increase in this as the school year progresses. Many thanks

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope you are all coping ok with the hot weather. My all accounts this is going to carry on for a fair few more days.

Sports Day

Diolch to all of you that came to support the Year 5/6 pupils in the schools third and final sports day of the year. The pupils acquitted themselves well and it was a thoroughly enjoyable hour. A huge congratulations to Tegid you walked away with the trophy this year.

Maths Challenge

A further well done to Morgan, James, Maya and Archie who represented the school in the cluster’s annual maths tournament. Though they are Year 5 the opposition was almost exclusively Year 6 pupils. Despite this they all did admirably with Maya and Archie coming in third.

Cricket

It has been the girls turn to done their pads and pick up the bat. They are currently out in Gresford representing the school in Cricket. Meanwhile the success of the boys team last week means that they will out in Gwersyllt again for the finals on Monday 30th June.

Transition

Information about your child’s new class should be out imminently. Your child will have a transition day with their new teacher on Thursday 26th June in preparation for next year.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mr J Moore

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Reminder of Sports Day Dates

Tuesday 10th June: Year 3&4

Wednesday 11the June: Reception, Year 1&2

Thursday 12th June: Year 5&6

Nursery will hold theirs on Wednesday 2nd July

In the event of bad weather, we will cancel and rearrange. If we have to cancel a second time, unfortunately, we will be unable to go ahead with these.

Personal possessions

Please try and restrict as much as possible, the possessions that your children are bringing into school from home. Nearly everything they require from an education standpoint can be accessed from home. We are finding more and more pupils being distracted from work by their toys, cards etc or being upset as they have been mislaid.

Names on clothing

Please ensure your child has their name written in all clothing. With the hot weather upon us, understandably there are times when they take their jumpers off for play or within the classroom. Names make the task of returning the clothing to its rightful owner much easier.

Creative Curriculum

Currently our Year 1’s are enjoying the creative curriculum with Miss Jones. They have been working with Polly looking at how we can add a spark and motivation to their literacy skills.

Have a great weekend,

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Firstly, thank you to all those of you that attended parents evening with your child’s teachers. Hopefully, you found these meetings constructive and were able to take the time to look through the various pieces of work they have completed during the first two terms in their current class. It will only be two months now before end of year reports come out. In the meantime, and as always, if their are any concerns or queries, please don’t hesitate to ask your child’s class teacher in the first instance.

VE Day

Yesterday, the pupils had the opportunity to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day. They spent a part of their day completing activities based around this special day. They also enjoyed a street party style feast, all dressed in blue, red and white.

PE Kit

Just a reminder please that pupils are to wear school PE kit on their PE days. This is simply white or pale blue t-shirt (or school polo) and black/grey shorts or jogging bottoms. Please do all you can to ensure that they keep this good habit. Many thanks in advance.

Have a lovely weekend,

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope you have all had the opportunity to enjoy the lovely weather we have had for a few days. Fingers crossed it runs into next week.

Estyn Parents Meeting

A reminder that the parents meet for the Estyn Inspection commences at 3.30pm. The front doors will be open from 3.15pm for you to take your seat. Please do come and join us for this to have your say on the school.

As pupils of CP are not to come into this meeting please sign up to the link sent around this week if you wish us to look after your children while this is taking place.

Timings

A reminder for next week that free breakfast club commences at 8.20am. Also, a kind reminder for the pupils to enter school before 8.50am when the gate closes. Late entry for pupils disrupts their learning and means they may need to catch up at the start of the lesson, not always an easy thing to do.

Get Crazy for Comic Relief

Thank you for all your effort and kind donations for Comic Relief. We will let you know how much we raised next week. Thank you also for wearing odd socks and bringing in a £1 to buy a gingerbread sock for World Down Syndrome Day. It is all very much appreciated.

Have a lovely weekend,

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Finally we are getting some warmer weather and the pupils are getting outside with increasing frequency.

This is particularly true of our Year 5&6 classes, who are trying to ensure that, through their topic of ‘following in footsteps’, the pupils are having a day a week in which they are enjoying numeracy and outdoor learning activities. Always more enjoyable when the sun is beaming down.

Congratulations

I am delighted to say that we have been the proud receivers of two more awards this week. One is the Gold award for investors in families- in which the continued hard work of our family learning team has been rewarded with the third award from investors in families. It sits proudly alongside the other two we have.

Also, a well done to dosbarthau Derwen and Onnen who, after receiving the Bronze award a couple of weeks ago, have now received the silver award from the Woodlands Trust Green Tree awards.

Some, but all, of the activities they have completed are:

  1. Tree trackers- identified the trees on our school grounds
  2. Trees in different cultures
  3. Wildlife survey – birds
  4. Lesson outside –  maths session outside
  5. Books outside – daily reading session outside

Keep up the hard work!

Holi

Finally, more evidence of the pupils enjoying this burst of good weather. On Thursday afternoon, pupils in Llwyfen, Bedwen and Masarnen enjoyed a fully immersive experience of Holi. Nothing is quite like being in the midst of this celebration but some of these photos should give you a good idea.

Message 10.1.25

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Happy New Year and a huge welcome back to the pupils. We all wish you a prosperous 2025.

The pupils have all enjoyed a fantastic first week with us, though the weather has meant that most of that has been indoors. Fingers crossed that next week warms up and they can get outside a little more frequently.

New Topics

The pupils will have started their new topics this week. These are:

Glasbren: A variety of topics to be covered this term. Starting with Superheroes and superfoods

Llwyfen, Bedwen, Masarnen: Light and Dark

Derwen, Onnen: Forest and Woodlands

Afallen, Celyn: Walking in the Footsteps

Calling in for Child Absence

A reminder that all absences such as medical or illness should be reported through the child absence line using the school phone number. Absence reported through other avenues such as directly with the class teacher can mean that occasionally our reception staff are not aware of the reason and you could receive a text that morning asking for further information. Thank you in advance.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Here we are at the end of a long, busy and successful term. It has been full of hard work, various events and lots of smiles and laughter. None more so than this last two weeks when we have enjoyed Cinema trips, parties, Early Years and  Year 1 and 2’s Christmas Performance, Year 5’s Service, Year 3 and 4’s Crafternoon, Afallen’s film premiere, Year 6’s Creative day showcase, Lower KS2 Wrexham documentaries and much more besides. I’m exhausted listing it.

A huge thank you to the pupils for being an absolute pleasure to be around, you should be very proud of them. Thank you to all of you for your continued support and a big thank you to the staff for their hard work and effort and making Gwersyllt CP a great place to be.

Today we give out our certificates for attendance and pupils of the term. Well done to the deserving winners.

We also say goodbye to Mrs W Howe after many years working with both Nursery and Little Chicks. We wish her all the best for her future endeavours. Thanks you for all your hard work. I am sure Little Chicks will be announcing shortly who will be filling the role. As for Nursery, we are happy to say that a Miss Lillie Callaghan will be a new member of staff with the term from January onwards. I am sure we will all give her a warm Gwersyllt CP welcome.

All that’s left to do is to wish you all a fabulous break and we will see you on January 7th at the normal time to start the new term.

Have a great couple of weeks,
