School crossing patrol

We have had a couple of incidents of pupils running across the road in front of the school before Nigel (our school crossing patrol) has been able to safely get stop traffic. Please make sure the pupils are cautious of the traffic when crossing the road. If they walk on their own please have this conversation with them. I have spoken to Year 1 upwards about this today in assembly

Harvest

A reminder that the school is requesting any non perishable food goods for the community cupboard for Friday 17th October Harvest Assembly. Each class will create an offering to bring to the front at the end of the assembly.

Show racism the red card

The school are also having a wear red day to promote awareness of the above charitable organisation. If you wish to you can text ‘RED’ to donate £1 (Text ‘Red 5’ to donate £5 or ‘Red10’ to donate £10)

Forest Schools

During the course of the year, all pupils will enjoy the opportunity to take part in forest school sessions. From Year 1 upwards you should receive a text to confirm when these sessions are taking place just before they commence. These take place in nearly all weathers (high wind being the exception). Last week Year 1/2 enjoyed the deluge of rain we had. This week some Year 5 pupils were priviliged enough to try a range of Albanian food – ranging from pastice (a home cooked Albanian dish made with spaghetti noodles, feta cheese, milk and eggs) to chofte (a mince meatball- though we had it served burger shaped). Many staff turned up to this forest school session strangely enough. Thank you to Ermela for preparing this delicious food.

Have a great weekend

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Harvest

On Friday 17th October the school will be having a Harvest assembly. During this we will talk about the meaning of Harvest and how crops are shared with those who may need them. Towards the end of this, each class will bring a box of food to the front of the hall as an offering to the community cupboard. If you can spare just one item of non-perishable food (e.g. Pasta, a tin of fruit etc) could this be brought into your child’s class from Wednesday morning onwards please. Thank you so much, your support is greatly appreciated.

Wear Red Against Racism

On the same day (Friday 17th of October) we will also be wearing red against racism. As previously, all pupils are requested to wear red for this, now annual, event.  If you wish to you can text ‘RED’ to donate £1 (Text ‘Red 5’ to donate £5 or ‘Red10’ to donate £10)

School Clothing

Just a reminder to put your child’s names into all items of clothing. This makes finding and returning the correct clothes far easier.

School Trips and Ordering of Packed Lunches

Can we please remind parents that if your child is going on a school trip and needs an inhaler, can you please make sure they have it with them.  If they require other medication on the day please make sure your classteacher is aware and that you have filled in the medication form from the school office.

If you have pre-ordered a packed lunch from the school and your child no longer requires it (i.e. you are supplying a packed lunch for them) can you please make sure you cancel the packed lunch on ParentPay.  This prevents food waste and reduces the additional impact of preparing the sandwiches for our Kitchen Staff.  Thanks.

Outdoor Learning

Finally, the Year 5/6 pupils enjoyed a couple of days in the forest of Northop Coleg Cambria exploring outside learning activities. Below is just a sample of the activities they took part in. As always the pupils were fantastic and did the school and yourselves proud.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Before I lead into the newsletter information please see some lovely RVE (Religion, Values and Ethics) work that our Year 5&6 were experiancing this week. With some low calming music playing it was a pleasure to step in there.

Pentrellyncymer

Can I just say again how much of a pleasure the pupils were to spend time with last week in Pentre. We couldn’t have asked for more from them. No doubt many of them slept well last Friday and are still recovering this week (I know I am). We have provisionally booked for next year for the dates 16-18th September 2026.

Information Evenings

The opportunity to book a slot with your child’s teacher should have been made available to you by now (if you haven’t received anything please contact the office). This is a fantastic opportunity to discuss how your child is settling into the new year, and possibly new classroom environment. As always, books will be available for you to look through pre or post meeting.

Message 5.9.25

Dear Parents/Guardians,

A warm welcome back to you all. It has been a pleasure to have the pupils back in school with us this week and for the school to have that familiar buzz about it. Hopefully your children are starting to settle into their new classes and getting to know their teachers and their environments a little better. I have placed some photos of the classes below, just to give you a glance of what they look like. We will have an information evening in October which will be held in your child’s classroom and allow you the opportunity to discuss how they have settled in this term.

Staff updates

Just a few staff changes to make you aware of this year. Firstly, We welcome back Mr Edwards into Dosbarth Masarnen after his Welsh sabbatical last year. Miss K Jones, who led Masarnen so wonderfully last year, is now working with our Year 1&2 team. Many of you will know Miss Kelly Thomas, who has taken over the role of School Caretaker in an official capacity from this September. Mrs Thomas’ TA role is now being overseen by a Mrs L Watkins in Nursery. A warm welcome to both Mrs Watkins and Miss Paige Wynne, who will also be overseeing the pupils in Little Chicks alongside Mrs B Wright.

We say a fond farewell to Ms K Davies our Midday supervisor who has left the role and a hello to Ms C Love who is now leading the Playmates team. I am sure all the staff will feel part of the family very soon.

Vaccinations

We have had a national message about the importance of vaccinations. There is concern that low uptake in these can cause widespread outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases. Please see below for information about vaccinations

https://phw.nhs.wales/topics/immunisation-and-vaccines/school-age-children-and-young-people/

Holidays

Just a reminder that it is county policy for holidays to be taken unauthorised with very few exceptions (please see the policy on the website for these). This means that a child will be marked in the register as ‘g’ for holidays for the time they are absent.

Snack and School Uniform

Finally, a quick thank you for the healthy snacks that the pupils have brought in this week (without exception, all snack has been fruit and veg). Can I also say how smart the pupils have looked in their school uniform and the correct PE kit this week. A very high bar has been set.

Have a lovely weekend

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The end of the penultimate week of term. This week has seen us start to celebrate the wonderful achievements this term and this year. This morning we had our annual Shiny Happy award. This award is in memory of Olivia Wood. The winner this year was Taylah in Glasbren 2. Taylah has received the star trophy and her name has been added to the growing list of previous winners in our reception area. Well done Taylah.

We also held our celebration event for the Heddlu Bach on Tuesday morning. PC Jo came with her traffic police car, her speed gun and a loud siren. We were supported by PC Stu, PCSO’s Lowri and Lydia. The pupils have been amazing and have really taken to their roles like ducks to water. Who knows maybe we have some future law enforcers in CP!

Next week we will host our termly attendance awards and pupil of the term awards. Then on Thursday…

…Leavers

The performance will commence at 6pm in the school hall (all being well). Doors will open at 5.30pm. The performance plus formal celebrations will take approximately 1 hour. Once these have taken place and, assuming the weather is suitable, pupils, family etc are all welcome to make their way down to the field where we will have music from Luke and a free ice cream (for the leavers only I am afraid). We will finish at 8.30pm.

Reception Graduation

Our Glasbren Team will be hosting the annual Graduation for our Reception Pupils on Wednesday 16th of July.  The gates to the yard will open at 1.30 pm and be shut at 1.40 pm.  After this, any arrivals will go through main reception.  Many thanks and we look forward to seeing you.

KS2 Showcase

On the same day as Reception Graduation, we will also have a small showcase for Afallen’s work at 2.30 pm.  Please enter through reception at this time.

MyHappymind Accreditation

Another huge well done to Mrs O’Toole and Miss Thomas who have led the school to the myHappymind Bronze Accreditation. MyHappymind is an initiative that allows pupils to learn skills and techniques to improve the mental health and emotional wellbeing. We look forward to continuing our journey in this.

Foster Wales

👀 Have you spotted our new banner?

We at Gwersyllt CP are proud to support Foster Wales Wrexham to help raise awareness of just how important it is to foster with the local authority.

Foster carers are needed right here in our community, and fostering with your local authority means you’re helping local children stay close to everything they know.

Dear Parents/Guardians

A busy week this week. We had another opportunity to meet our new Nursery intake with our Teddy Bears picnic this Wednesday. Alongside Club Aderyn (ran throughout the year), group transition mornings, shared transition days, parents information evening and this event, I hope that the new pupils feel prepared to join us in September. We have also started to work as a cluster in how we, as a group of schools, can lessen the impact that rising costs can have on the pupils and the surrounding community. Our boys cricket team did themselves proud- coming second in the Wrexham finals- Da Iawn boys, their sportsmanship was second to none as usual.

A huge thank you, as always, goes to our PTA who put on the summer disco’s last night. We are continually grateful and they were a great success as always. The PTA will also be paying for the pupils final treat of an ice cream on the field. We seem to regularly get nice weather for this day. Lets hope this continues this year.

Finally, our outside learning continues to flourish, the forest school sessions are still going ahead in glorious weather and the Year 1 pupils are steadily working on the culmination of their creative curriculum event. More news on this in a week or so.

Reports

These should be coming out with your child today. A form will come out the following week for any comments or feedback you wish to sent through.

Items in school and make up

Alongside a reminder for pupils to avoid bringing items from home in- cards, teddys etc. can we also request that no make up be brought in. We are seeing an increase in this as the school year progresses. Many thanks

Message 20.6.25

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope you are all coping ok with the hot weather. My all accounts this is going to carry on for a fair few more days.

Sports Day

Diolch to all of you that came to support the Year 5/6 pupils in the schools third and final sports day of the year. The pupils acquitted themselves well and it was a thoroughly enjoyable hour. A huge congratulations to Tegid you walked away with the trophy this year.

Maths Challenge

A further well done to Morgan, James, Maya and Archie who represented the school in the cluster’s annual maths tournament. Though they are Year 5 the opposition was almost exclusively Year 6 pupils. Despite this they all did admirably with Maya and Archie coming in third.

Cricket

It has been the girls turn to done their pads and pick up the bat. They are currently out in Gresford representing the school in Cricket. Meanwhile the success of the boys team last week means that they will out in Gwersyllt again for the finals on Monday 30th June.

Transition

Information about your child’s new class should be out imminently. Your child will have a transition day with their new teacher on Thursday 26th June in preparation for next year.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mr J Moore

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Reminder of Sports Day Dates

Tuesday 10th June: Year 3&4

Wednesday 11the June: Reception, Year 1&2

Thursday 12th June: Year 5&6

Nursery will hold theirs on Wednesday 2nd July

In the event of bad weather, we will cancel and rearrange. If we have to cancel a second time, unfortunately, we will be unable to go ahead with these.

Personal possessions

Please try and restrict as much as possible, the possessions that your children are bringing into school from home. Nearly everything they require from an education standpoint can be accessed from home. We are finding more and more pupils being distracted from work by their toys, cards etc or being upset as they have been mislaid.

Names on clothing

Please ensure your child has their name written in all clothing. With the hot weather upon us, understandably there are times when they take their jumpers off for play or within the classroom. Names make the task of returning the clothing to its rightful owner much easier.

Creative Curriculum

Currently our Year 1’s are enjoying the creative curriculum with Miss Jones. They have been working with Polly looking at how we can add a spark and motivation to their literacy skills.

Have a great weekend,

Message 9.5.25

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Firstly, thank you to all those of you that attended parents evening with your child’s teachers. Hopefully, you found these meetings constructive and were able to take the time to look through the various pieces of work they have completed during the first two terms in their current class. It will only be two months now before end of year reports come out. In the meantime, and as always, if their are any concerns or queries, please don’t hesitate to ask your child’s class teacher in the first instance.

VE Day

Yesterday, the pupils had the opportunity to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day. They spent a part of their day completing activities based around this special day. They also enjoyed a street party style feast, all dressed in blue, red and white.

PE Kit

Just a reminder please that pupils are to wear school PE kit on their PE days. This is simply white or pale blue t-shirt (or school polo) and black/grey shorts or jogging bottoms. Please do all you can to ensure that they keep this good habit. Many thanks in advance.

Have a lovely weekend,

Message 21.3.25

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope you have all had the opportunity to enjoy the lovely weather we have had for a few days. Fingers crossed it runs into next week.

Estyn Parents Meeting

A reminder that the parents meet for the Estyn Inspection commences at 3.30pm. The front doors will be open from 3.15pm for you to take your seat. Please do come and join us for this to have your say on the school.

As pupils of CP are not to come into this meeting please sign up to the link sent around this week if you wish us to look after your children while this is taking place.

Timings

A reminder for next week that free breakfast club commences at 8.20am. Also, a kind reminder for the pupils to enter school before 8.50am when the gate closes. Late entry for pupils disrupts their learning and means they may need to catch up at the start of the lesson, not always an easy thing to do.

Get Crazy for Comic Relief

Thank you for all your effort and kind donations for Comic Relief. We will let you know how much we raised next week. Thank you also for wearing odd socks and bringing in a £1 to buy a gingerbread sock for World Down Syndrome Day. It is all very much appreciated.

Have a lovely weekend,
