Dear Parents/Guardians,

Firstly a correction, in the last newsletter I referred to the school council members visiting training. This was cancelled at the 11th hour, to late for the newsletter to be cancelled unfortunately. This will be rearranged for after Christmas

Illness

As you will know we try to keep the attendance of all pupils and the school as a whole as high as possible. Having said that, the months are getting colder and there will be illness rearing its head. In the newsletter we have scanned in the information sheet we have for a variety of illness if you wish to check recommended guidance.

Diolch

A huge thank you to everyone who has attended the events put on over the last week. The audience are a huge part of how well a show goes and we are fortunate to have the best audience going. This week we have a couple of events remaining before we break up for the holidays on Thursday 19th December 2024.

Gwersyllt CP Under the Spotlight

Please see below a lovely piece written about Gwersyllt in the investors in Families newsletter.

Spotlight on Gwersyllt Community Primary School

This week, we’re delighted to shine a light on Gwersyllt Community Primary School (@familyGwersyllt on X), a school that goes above and beyond to strengthen family and community engagement.

What We Think is Great:

Family Stay and Play: A welcoming event where families can enjoy a variety of activities, creating a relaxed atmosphere to build connections.

Home Learning support regularly shared through their you tube ‘Boost’ channel. These creative challenges encourage families to get involved in their child’s learning.

Family Meditation Sessions: Families are invited to join in with a calming, peaceful afternoon together.

What We Can Learn:

Community-Centered Approach: Gwersyllt prioritises creating spaces and opportunities for families to feel part of the school community.

Engaging Through Social Media: Their X account and you tube channel is a great example of using social platforms to share updates, resources, and inspiration with families.

Inclusive Family Activities: By designing events that welcome all, they ensure every family feels valued and supported.

Let’s celebrate Gwersyllt’s fantastic initiatives and consider how we can incorporate similar strategies to enhance family engagement in our own settings. Their work reminds us of the power of meaningful connections in creating a thriving school community.

Have a lovely weekend everyone and we will see you all for the last few days next week

Hedgehog Home

Nursery in Dosbarth Glasbren have been working on a class project about hedgehogs. They have completed a number of projects to help increase the hedgehog population in Gwersyllt CP.

The Men Shed in the Port- a group of men from Ellesmere Port have built a hedgehog home and we have been given this for our area in Jaxons Wood. Fingers crossed we have new residents soon!

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As term gets busier there is a lot to update you on.

Football Team

As per usual our sporting teams did us proud at the end of last week. 8 pupils represented the school at the Wrexham Football Tournament at Rhosnesni High School. They played fantastically throughout the day and made it all the way to the final, a close fought game, which they lost 1-0. Mr McAteer was extremely proud of them and the way they battled hard, yet showed great sportsmanship in every game – win, lose or draw. Well done all.

Stay and Play and Club Aderyn

The Family Learning Team (after a very successful Gift sharing event last week) continued the hard work with both Club Aderyn and Stay and Play. Whereas Stay and Play gives the opportunity for the Early Years pupils to play with their parents in school the Club Aderyn focuses much more on those that are yet to join the Gwersyllt CP family.

Christmas Fair

Thank you everyone for making our annual Christmas Fair another well attended success. The PTA have raised a substantial amount of money through it and none of this would be possible without your support. Of course, a huge thank you as always to the PTA for the hard work that they put into these events.

School Council

Finally, four of our school council attended training this week at Ysgol Bryn Alyn to ensure that they do the job to the best of their abilities. The four boys worked alongside the High School and a couple of other primaries to create a cluster plan moving forward.

Please do check further down the newsletter to see what other events are taking place next week.  We will text out times that the doors will open to those that are visiting nearer the date of the event.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Dear Parents/Guardian,

We have now officially entered the busy season. I can hear the delightful sound of singing coming up the corridors, every page in the school diary looks full, with every hour accounted for and I’m pretty sure the staff coffee reserves are dwindling at an alarming speed.

Still, we have much to look forward to. As promised, below are the times for the events that are happening over the next few weeks. We will send out more info about the specifics of these closer to the day if required but the start times should stay the same.

  • 9th December – Year 1&2 Cinema treat – leaving just after 9am
  • 10th December – Year 3&4 Cinema treat – leaving just after 9am
  • 10th December – Year 3&4 Crafternoon for Parents – to commence in the hall at 1.45pm for a few songs then into class for craft
  • 13th December – Early Years Christmas Performance – to start at 10am
  • 13th December – Year 1&2 Performance – to start at 1.30pm

A huge thank you for all those that supported the school during the giveaway on Wednesday at 3.10pm. All your items and contributions were hugely appreciated.

Sad News

I am sorry to say that Mrs W Howe will be leaving her role as Nursery Teaching Assistant from Thursday 19th December. Mrs Howe has been with the school for many years and has become an integral part of what Nursery life has been in the past and is like today. I am sure you will join us in wishing her all the best for all her future endeavours moving forward. Please see below for a note from the trustees of Little Chicks..

...from Little Chicks

It is with great sadness that we share that Mrs Howe will be leaving Little Chicks at the end of this term. She has been the driving force behind Little Chicks for many years and we thank her for her dedication and commitment to the role.

Just to reassure you, we have now started the process of looking for someone new to join our friendly team and we are currently advertising for a new Lead Supervisor to start in January.

Have a lovely weekend,

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Firstly, I would like to thank all those who have given generously for the poppies and other assorted items over the course of the last week or so. Mrs Evans knitted poppies have, as always, sold out, more made, and then sold out again. Those sales alone have raised roughly £130. Alongside the donation made for the other items we have raised a good amount of money for the Royal British Legion.

The school held a Remembrance service on Monday in the hall from Year 1 and above and a wreath was placed by the school at the Community Service on Sunday. Our Year 6 speakers have also been going out into the community on Friday to deliver a service to the Luncheon club in the Congregational Church.

Also thank you to all those who participated in the Children in Need Event in school today.  Suggested £1.00 donation can be made via the link the in the newsletter below via Parent Pay.

Pendine

Our pupils also made one of their regular visits to Pendine to work with the residents. This is a fantastic community link and both parties get so much from the time that is spent there. Please see the link below to a piece that was written about this in July:

Have a lovely weekend,

Wrexham Trip

Dosbarth Onnen enjoyed a trip to Wrexham this week utilizing the local train and spending time looking at key landmarks of the City and visiting the miners project. Pictures are available on the website.

Dosbarth Derwen and Masarnen will have their visits in the next two weeks.

Attendance

Just a reminder that we will be having our attendance awards at the end of the half term. Please do all you can to give the pupils the best chance of being awarded a certificate at the end of the year.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope you are all well and thank you to everyone who came to Parents Evening this week. Hopefully it gave you the first opportunity to catch up with your child’s teacher and how the first month of school has gone this year.

Harvest

The school celebrated harvest through an assembly today. We discussed harvest and looked at the equivalent in America, thanksgiving. Each class then brought an offering to the front of the assembly for the community cupboard. Dosbarth Bedwen and Llwyfen also visited the local church to take some food items. Thank you to everyone who donated something to this.

Attendance

A few of you may have received a letter regarding your child’s attendance in school. This will largely be based on holidays and hopefully your child’s attendance will improve as the year gets longer. We have been advised by County Policy and the attendance officer to send these out as a cautionary measure at this point.

However, I am delighted to say that the school’s attendance currently sits above 95% and is comfortably up there with the best in Wrexham. It would be fantastic to keep it this way. A huge thank you to everyone for playing your part in ensuring that the classes are full and the pupils don’t miss out on any vital teaching.

Tempest Photographs

Tempest will be in on Monday 21st October to take individual photos. They will also be doing siblings of pupils in school. Unfortunately, due to time, we can only do pupils currently in Gwersyllt CP.

Club Aderyn

Finally, we started our Club Aderyn on Friday. This is a sequence of sessions for pre- school pupils to come and join us in ordr to get us to the school environment. We had a great turn up this week and we look forward to getting to know them over the course of the sessions

Have a lovely weekend,

Dear Parents/Guardians,

A very busy week at Gwersyllt CP this week with many whole school activities going on.

Pentrellyncymer

Can I just say again how much of a pleasure the pupils were to spend time with last week in Pentre. We couldn’t have asked for more from them. No doubt many of them slept well last Friday and are still recovering this week (I know I am). We have provisionally booked for next year for the dates 17-19th September 2025.

Author Visit

Thursday saw the visit of an author to school. He took time to speak to as many of the children as possible. Reading his book and enjoying their questions. It was great for the pupils to see that these books can be and are created by an idea and don’t simply appear on the shelves. Hopefully it will have inspired a few creative minds and we will see the fruits of this in years to come.

Welsh Day

We enjoyed our first termly Welsh day today. It gives the pupils the opportunity to deep dive into all things Welsh and its culture. The pupils do carousal sessions in a variety of classes and looked fabulous in red or the Welsh attire. All proceeds are going towards the Eisteddfod in Wrexham this year.

Harvest

Nest Friday we will have a harvest assembly in which we will be asking the pupils to bring up a class hamper offering at the end. We are requesting any non perishable goods be sent in from Thursday for this assembly. All offerings will go into the school community cupboard. Many thanks

Parking

Just a kind request from Noddfa (and ourselves) not to use their staff and visitor car park on pick-ups or drop offs. Please use Home Bargains carpark. The side gate will be open at the start and the end of the day.

….and finally, a lovely exampe of perseverance by Gabriel below. After swimming he set himself a mini task of building a card tower. I was alerted to this by the huge roar that filled the top half of the film after he had succeeded. Da iawn Gabriel.

Have a lovely weekend

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope this week’s newsletter finds you well. Our apologies for the technical hitches we have been having with it recently. We do endeavour to get it out on Friday for everyone, but recently the system we use has not been running them through as scheduled. We hope this problem ceases soon.

Parents Evening

Speaking of technical hitches, I hope the problems we have had with the parents evening booking form have corrected themselves and everyone is now able to book an appointment with their pupils classteacher. These will be for the week beginning the 7th October. The exception to this will be Bedwen. We are planning for these to take place in November to allow a fully informed conversation with Miss Jones upon her return.

Pentrellyncymer

We are at day three of the residential in Pentrellyncymer and I wanted to take this opportunity to say how fantastic the pupils have been. Enthusiastic, willing to try anything and great company, myself, Mrs Sailes and Miss Newell have thoroughly enjoyed our time with them.

Hopefully, you have managed to access the photos on Class Dojo. I will endeavour to put a few more up on the website next week.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

A full and busy week this week. We have seen visits from Lili Jones (Wrexham and Wales Footballer) who came to talk with Masarnen, Derwen and Onnen as part of their ‘Up the Town’ topic. Explore have been in with our Year 6 pupils to look at being Future Leaders and, in what has been a busy week for them, our Year 6’s also continued the creative curriculum work on Tuesdays. All this alongside the normal diet of swimming, forest schools, playmaker training etc.

Phew!

Data Collection

Just to make you aware that the Data Collection Sheets will be out in the next couple of weeks. Could you please check that all information is current and return the sheets regardless of whether there are alterations or not.
