Message – 27.9.24

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope this week’s newsletter finds you well. Our apologies for the technical hitches we have been having with it recently. We do endeavour to get it out on Friday for everyone, but recently the system we use has not been running them through as scheduled. We hope this problem ceases soon.

Parents Evening

Speaking of technical hitches, I hope the problems we have had with the parents evening booking form have corrected themselves and everyone is now able to book an appointment with their pupils classteacher. These will be for the week beginning the 7th October. The exception to this will be Bedwen. We are planning for these to take place in November to allow a fully informed conversation with Miss Jones upon her return.

Pentrellyncymer

We are at day three of the residential in Pentrellyncymer and I wanted to take this opportunity to say how fantastic the pupils have been. Enthusiastic, willing to try anything and great company, myself, Mrs Sailes and Miss Newell have thoroughly enjoyed our time with them.

Hopefully, you have managed to access the photos on Class Dojo. I will endeavour to put a few more up on the website next week.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

A full and busy week this week. We have seen visits from Lili Jones (Wrexham and Wales Footballer) who came to talk with Masarnen, Derwen and Onnen as part of their ‘Up the Town’ topic. Explore have been in with our Year 6 pupils to look at being Future Leaders and, in what has been a busy week for them, our Year 6’s also continued the creative curriculum work on Tuesdays. All this alongside the normal diet of swimming, forest schools, playmaker training etc.

Phew!

Data Collection

Just to make you aware that the Data Collection Sheets will be out in the next couple of weeks. Could you please check that all information is current and return the sheets regardless of whether there are alterations or not.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We have reached the end of our first full week now and most of the school timetable is up and running. Hopefully, over the course of the next couple of weeks, you will hear information about some of the school clubs that we plan to offer this year.

Just for your information, and so you know what environment your child is entering each morning, I have placed pictures of each class below. Please do take a look at the lovely spaces that teaching staff have created.

Attendance and Lates

As we are at the beginning of the school year it seems apt to remind everyone of the importance of regular attendance and arriving at school on time. The latter is hugely important as it starts the pupils off in the right frame of mind that sets them up for the rest of the day. It really can be very daunting entering a classroom that has already started work.

Just to request that we do ask you to contact us if your child is going to be absent from school. If we don’t hear from anyone by 9.30am a text will be sent out. If a reason has not yet been given by 10am we will give you a phone call.

Pupils arriving between 8.50am and 9.30am will be given an ‘L’ code for late. After 9.30am the code will alter to ‘U’ which will unfortunately count them as absent for that session. Of course, this does not include any medical or dentist appointments.

Have a wonderful weekend and let’s hope the weather improves.

Cofion cynnes,

Message 6.9.24

Dear Parents/Guardians,

A huge welcome back to everyone. As always it was fantastic to see the pupils on the first morning back and all seem to be settling in well into their classes and routines (some new, some more familiar). I hope you all had a pleasant summer.

This academic year sees some change in personnel – we welcome Miss K Jones full time in Dosbarth Masarnen and Ms S Binnersley will be joining the Year 1 and 2 team (though is supporting Dosbarth Bedwen initially).

Cleaner Vacancy

There is a vacancy for a cleaner at Gwersyllt Community Primary School. If you are interested in this post please contact pam.burgess@wrexham.gov.uk who can talk you through the details and the process of application.

Supermarket Grants

I am delighted to say that the school have won a grant from Tesco to add a piece of exercise equipment to the school yard. Thank you for all that promoted the schools cause when shopping there.

Currently there is a promotion in Asda called ‘Cashpot for schools’. I believe that every time money is spent at ASDA a small donation is made to the school if they are nominated.

Many thanks.

Have a lovely Weekend,

A fond farewell

At the end of a long year we reach the point in which we have to say goodbye.

Not only are we saying goodbye to our wonderful Year 6 pupils- who wowed us all with their leaving performance on Thursday (we really are waving farewell to some incredible talent)- but we say good bye and thank you to a few members of the school team.

A huge thank you to Mia Tomlinson and Iola Agnew who worked with us this year as apprentice TAs. They quickly fitted in and have offered so much to the school. We wish them all the best moving forward and hope our paths will cross again at some point.

Mr Edwards is leaving us for a year to follow a Welsh sabbatical, though will be popping in regularly to lend his newly found expertise in the language.

Finally, a massive thank you goes to Mrs Edwards. Initially arriving at the school as a volunteer, over the course of 20+ years, she has had a hand in nearly every pupils education as they passed through Gwersyllt CP. Mrs Edwards also worked as a treasurer for the PTA and as a part of the governing body. We said our farewells during the foundation learning assembly on Wednesday and hope that we get many a visit over the course of the years that follow. The staff and pupils will miss her dearly and all her hard work is greatly appreciated. Diolch yn fawr Iawn.

We at Gwersyllt hope all of the above and yourselves have a great summer break.

Year 5 + 6 – Sports in the Summer

Active Wrexham Community Football & Cricket sessions

@ Gwersyllt MUGA

Football & cricket sessions will take place on Wednesday afternoons at Gwersyllt MUGA (behind Gwersyllt Cricket Clubhouse, LL11 4DX) ran by Active Wrexham & Cricket Wales & in partnership with North Wales Police, working with local PSCO’s.

The football session will take place 4.00-5.00pm.

The cricket session will take place 5.00-6.00pm.

The aim of the sessions is to give young people the chance to engage in positive behaviour within a community setting.

The sessions will run throughout the 6 weeks summer holiday, starting on 24th July until 28th August. If popular, we will look to continue the session beyond this.

It will be a turn up & play session & there will be no cost involved. The pitch at The Muga is concrete so trainers will need to be worn.

Young people can join the sessions at any time, during the summer holidays & can attend either one of the sessions or both.

You must be aged between 9-14 (school years 5-9).

The QR Code below will take you to a consent form on a website called Upshot. This form will just needed to be completed once with the young person’s information.

Please click on the green writing under the main heading to switch the form to English.

If you have signed up previously, there is no need to sign up again.

Any questions or queries, please direct to Robert Darlington, Active Wrexham Youth Worker:

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The penultimate week before the summer holidays is over. This week has been filled with activity and there is plenty to look forward to next week.

This Week

A huge thank you to all of you that joined us for the Year 1 and 2 Event on Wednesday afternoon. Fortunately, it stayed dry and we were able to work across the hall and the top yard. The pupils seemed to thoroughly enjoy the event. Thank you to the teachers for putting it together and to all the external agencies that came and supported it too.

Our Cricket team also made it to Colwyn Bay for the finals on Wednesday. They did themselves proud, winning two of their games, and, as always, behaved impeccably.

Finally, our Healthy and confident Senedd groups ran the KS2 sports event this Friday and our Enterprising and creative group held the school history event at home time. It is lovely seeing things that the pupils dream up coming to fruition.

Wrexham FC

We are trying to gather photos for our Wrexham FC board in school. If you have any photographs of your child wearing the kit, at the stadium or meeting the players and are happy to have it posted on the display wall we would really appreciate it being emailed over or sent in. A huge thank you in advance.

Next Week

Next week, being our final week, means we will be holding our Olivia Wood Assembly (Monday) and out Attendance and Pupil of the Term awards Assemblies. We will also have house treats and ice cream organised by the PTA on the Friday. A reminder that our Year 6 Leaver’s service takes place at 6pm on Thursday.

Friday 19th of July

Uniform – Friday the 19th is NOT a non-uniform day and pupils will be expected to wear full uniform.  Thank you.

Shirt Signing – Next Friday all Year 6 pupils will be allowed to bring a spare shirt/t-shirt in for signing if they wish.

Also, assuming that the weather is ok, we will be placing items of lost property on the yard next week. Please do take the time to have a look through if your child has lost something.

Have a great weekend,

Uned Glasbren

As promised please see the inside of our new Early Year layout for Nursery and Reception- now called Uned Glasbren (Saplings Unit).

We are trialling this for the start of September.

Message – 5.7.24 – please see end for a wonderful video- well done all involved

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The end of an incredibly busy week. To name but a few things this week (even though it is one day shorter) the school and the pupils have:

  • Been to Park Hall Farm (Reception)
  • Visited the Eisteddfod (All of KS2)
  • Choir performing in Llangollen (Mr Edwards and a team of pupils)
  • Nursery and new Nursery Teddy Bears picnic and sports event
  • 6 Year 6 pupils and Mrs O’Toole speaking in a Ted Talk at Wrexham university – Please see below
  • Planned alongside the Arts Curriculum for a Year 6 project next September.
  • Eventually had Year 5/6 sports day
  • Been to YBA Summer Fair (Year 5)
  • Enjoyed the School Disco (everyone)

As always, thank you to the PTA for their time and effort for the disco. A huge thank you to everyone involved for everything else (Parents, Staff and, of course, the pupils). Diolch!

End of School Day

Today I have spoken to the pupils about the importance of moving from the school grounds quickly after school. A few pupils have got into the habit of playing on the park and the lower football pitch at the end of the day. In itself this isn’t a problem. However, in order to secure the site to allow Playmates to function as it should, we are required to lock the side gates as well as the entry gates (the front gate to reception is the exception) so Playmates (and any other clubs) can run safely. Can I ask that adults picking up help us with this. Thank you in advance.

Unversity Ted Talk

I am very proud to be able to show you the TED TALK led by 6 pupils and Mrs O’Toole this week. Very powerful and incredibly impressive I am sure you will agree.

EY unit

You may be aware that, next year, we will be altering our Early Years provision. We will become a Nursery and Recpetion class in the morning (Reception only in the afternoon) and will be called Uned Glasbren Welsh for Saplings). This will be trialled from next week onwards to allow pupils in Nursery to get use to this and the teachers to iron out any kinks or hurdles. We believe it is going to be a fantastic asset and we are looking forward to seeing it bear fruit (pun inteneded).

As soon a possible, I will add photos.

Have a lovely weekend
